Following the tragic fire at Grenfell Tower in 2017, the Government undertook a root and branch review of the Building Regulation system. The review was overseen by Dame Judith Hackitt and culminated in the publication of the ‘Building a Safer Future’ report.
After consideration of the recommendations in that report, the Government has implemented the Building Safety Act which is supported by several pieces of recently published secondary legislation.
In addition, the Government has formed a new regulatory body within the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) called the Building Safety Regulator (BSR). The BSR will oversee many aspects of building safety, including Building Regulations and Building Control.
These new Building Regulations change the building control system and the way in which you work with, or within it. Many these changes apply to all building work, not just higher-risk buildings.
